Homemade Hung Curd

Curd helps in maintaining a healthy heart and with the racing time more and more youth is getting prone to heart diseases. So including curd in our daily diet can help reduce cholesterol levels and risk of high blood pressure. Some studies also reveal that certain people who cannot consume milk because they are lactose intolerant can consume curd safely. But you should always consult your doctor in such cases before consuming it. It helps boost immunity and is also good for teeth and bones.

Follow these steps to make hung curd at home.
You will need
- One big vessel
- Muslin Cloth
- One strainer
- And of course, CURD.
Method
- Place a strainer on the vessel.
- On the strainer put the muslin cloth.
- Pour the curd on the cloth and let it rest for some time.
- After about 30 - 40 mins, you will see that the water from the curd has drizzled down into the vessel.
- Now bring the corners of the cloth together and gently twist and squeeze the curd using both hands to remove excess water from it if any.
- The resultant in the cloth after squeezing is the hung curd.
You can use this to make Shrikhand, Hung Curd Sandwich, Dips, Kebabs and many more varieties. I shall be sharing with you the recipes soon.
Tip: Never throw away the water remaining from the curd. It is called whey and it contains protein, potassium and calcium. Use it while kneading dough for roti or use it for making Kadhi. If children like it then just add little salt to it and make them drink it fresh.
