Hare Chane Ka Halwa

I love to eat those sweets which are made with vegetables. After carrot halwa it is Green Chana Halwa. Green Chana are available in plenty during winters. This halwa is my family's favourite and it is customary to prepare it at least thrice during the season. We call it 'Jajriyaa' in our language.

This is a unique halwa as it is little different from the other halwas. Its consistency is little runny to its counterparts. Being halwa we cannot compromise on the ghee content but you can definitely reduce little.

Prepared fresh and served hot with dry fruit garnishes, it is superb. As I told you the main ingredient is the Green chana available with any vegetable vendor during winter.

To prepare this halwa you will need mawa/ khoya apart from the green chana. Either you buy khoya from market or prepare it at home. Click here for recipe of Homemade Mawa/ Khoya.

Let me give you the method to this Halwa.

Hare Chane Ka Halwa

Serves 4

Ingredients

250 grams Hara Chana
3 tbsp Ghee
150 grams Sugar
1 Cardamom powdered
Pinch Jaiphal powder (Nutmeg)
10 Raisins
6-8 Almonds (Finely sliced)
2 cups Water

Method
  • Wash the Green Chana and pat them dry on a kitchen towel.
  • Grind them in a mixer jar. The mixture should be little coarse. Do not over grind.

  • In a pan (I used Non - stick) heat the ghee.
  • Now add the ground green chana paste. Cook on low flame.
  • As you cook it, its colour will change to dark green. This should take you about 15 minutes on low flame. Keet stirring else you will burn the mixture.
  • Now grate the mawa on a plate and add it to this green chana mixture. Mix Well.
  • Keep cooking the mawa and chana together for another 5 minutes on low flame.
  • Now add Sugar and water. Turn the flame to medium high stir continuously but gently.
  • Now you can add the dry fruits, cardamom and jaiphal.
  • Keep stirring well so that the chana, khoya and water mixes well.
  • After about 5 -7 minutes you will attain the perfect consistency.
  • Serve hot.
Tips
  • This Halwa is dark green in colour and little runny so adjust the consistency.
  • Adjust the sugar content as per your taste.
  • Garnish with dry fruits and serve hot. This Halwa stays good for 4 -5days. Store in refrigerator.
