Masala Thepla

Breakfast is a vital part of the day. It should ideally have good nutrient value to keep us charged up till lunch. There are many myths about Indian food and the way of breakfast routine we have. In my opinion, a good breakfast should always have carbohydrates and a little bit of fat with other vitamins and minerals.

So what better than a healthy paratha or any kind of Indian flatbread made with whole wheat flour, cooked and served by the lady of the house to her family.

I love to make theplas as breakfast because they are quick to make and also have good satiety value. Combining them with some fresh fruit jams or homemade pickle adds to the flavour and are also healthy.

I have made simple Masala Theplas today, unlike the monotonous Methi Theplas. These can be made any season as they do not use green fresh methi.

Let's quickly get to the Thepla recipe

MASALA THEPLA

Makes 6 theplas

Ingredients

1cup Whole wheat flour
3tbsp Finely chopped fresh coriander leaves
1/2 tbsp crushed Kasoori methi
1tsp ghee
1/2 tap sugar
Salt to taste
Pinch of hing and turmeric
1tsp White sesame
1/2tsp Saunf (Fennel) optional
1/2tsp Red chilli Powder

Oil/ Ghee to roast the Theplas on Tawa

Method:

  • I a deep bowl add all the ingredients and make a medium soft dough with the help of water.
  • Let it rest for 5 minutes.
  • Now heat a Tawa and divide the dough into 6 equal portions.
  • Start rolling each portion one at a time in a chakla with the help of belan(rolling pin)
  • You may sprinkle dry flour while rolling so it doesn't stick to the chakla.
  • Place the rolled Thepla on a heated Tawa and roast them with oil or ghee by flipping till golden and crisp.
  • Serve hot.
These Theplas taste excellent with Mango pickle, Jams or even a bowl of plain yogurt.

Do try making them for Sunday breakfast and share your experiences with me in comments section. I would be glad to hear from you.

Till then
